Union Street

I was walking down Union Street yesterday and noticed a bunch of shuttered stores and a bunch of newly opened ones too. There seems to be constant store and restaurant turnover on that street. Makes me wonder what has a higher failure rate: Silicon Valley startups or San Francisco retail stores?

Toni, I think retail is badly bruised, much more than the Silicon Valley startups. The crisis in Circuit City is well known to everyone and now comes the news that BestBuy has issued downside earnings guidance. According to the BestBuy reports, this is going to be one of the toughest periods in the entire length of their existence.
