Automattic now reaches half a billion people

Last night, we crossed the 500M mark for monthly unique visitors to the Automattic network:

The Automattic network consists of WordPress.com, Polldaddy, IntenseDebate, and Gravatar, as tracked by Quantcast (the bump you see in November is when we started tracking Polldaddy, ID, Gravatar, and WordPress.com Stats users in addition to WordPress.com visitors).

500M uniques is Google, Facebook, and Yahoo territory. And what’s even better is that we have reached that number with a team of just 75 people (spread across 17 states and 23 countries).

  12. not to be a spoil-sport, but why would one include WordPress.com stats plugin users (i.e. self-hosted WordPress blogs) as being part of the automattic network?

    1. We're including it because we're planning on using the data for future feature development.

      1. OK (or not, but that's not my point here), but I fail to see how those future developments make self-hosted wordpress blogs part of the Automattic network?
