Back in September, Eric Drew took us up to Ted Salkin’s place in Healdsburg. Ted’s specialty is to dismantle old machine and printing shops. He gets called in when newspapers move or go out of business and they need someone to take apart and haul off their printing equipment. Over the decades, he has kept and collected a large variety of printing presses and other machinery. Ted took us around on a fantastic tour showing us his many presses, several of which are in working order and some are apparently very valuable – I don’t remember which ones, but you’ll see several recurring names like Heidelberg, Albion Press, Lion Press, Intertype, Linograph, and Monotype in the pictures I took that day:

Nice 911!
Those old presses are so cool looking. Looks like they would have been fun to use… for a day. Digital type is a lot less heavy. 🙂
